Her career in music began at an early age having won local competitions at the age of 10, and recording for the first time at the age of 14. The year 1985 saw her signing with Rounder Records. Her first solo album was released in 1987. The group she joined was who she still performs, Alison Krauss Union Station. They released their first album in 1989.
